Doing our bit for the environment28 February 2022 | Admin Doing our bit for the environment Online shopping and home delivery have become an integral part of modern consumerism. During the Covid-19 pandemic, 96% of UK residents have ordered products online that required a home parcel delivery. This trend is unlikely to reverse when the world eventually gets back to the new normal. In this generation, we are actively encouraged to make conscious decisions both as consumers and retailers that limit our individual impact on the environment. To do our bit we have made it our mission to reuse as much as we can of every box and paper that in to our warehouse. We receive orders from wholesalers every day resulting in many cardboard boxes and paper fillings. We reuse every single box and paper to send out our daily orders. We reuse paper invoices printed on one side for our picking lists. Our customers may not be receiving their orders in pretty boxes but they certainly appreciate our efforts for sustainability. We still have a lot we need to do but hey at least we have made a start. Did you know reusing is better than recycling because it saves the energy that comes with having to dismantle and re-manufacture products. It also significantly reduces waste and pollution because it reduces the need for raw materials, saving both forests and water supplies. Although recycling has been a staple of sustainable living for decades, it does have some downsides. A large amount of energy is needed to transport, process and reassemble recyclable materials. Particularly in the UK, recycling can still be a very expensive process. Reusing refers to using an object as it is without treatment. This reduces pollution and waste, thus making it a more sustainable process. The process of reuse begins with the attitude that products and materials have usefulness beyond the owner’s original intention. Before tossing something in the trash, stop and ask yourself if it can be used for some other purpose. |
